How do you avoid holes in listening history?

I'm using this mostly as a way to sometimes go back to my history and check out my top songs over a certain time period, not so much as daily tool. In the past it's happened that my Spotify connection expired which left holes in the history when logging back in, so I had to request my data from Spotify and import it back.

Is there any way to avoid that by keeping a perpetual connection to Spotify? If not, what's the actual delay?
