Blender Version Support Policies

This is the current policy regarding the un-official cats support for blender.

Latest versions of Blender.

Version: Policy: End Of Life Date/ Notes:
3.6 LTS We currently Fully Support Blender 3.6 LTS and it will be given priority unto the next LTS version come out. All 3.6 versions number will be under 3.6.x.x. 3 months after 4.2 LTS release.
4.2 LTS The 4.2 branch has basic support for blender 4.1, the current 4.2 dev branch may contain further fixes and updates. Please note this version may have issues as MMD tools which cats uses has not fully been updated to blender 4.2 but as soon as MMD Tools updates for Blender 4.2 we will ensure we update our local version as well. All blender 4.2 releases will be released under version number 4.2.x.x. Blender 4.2 is currently in Alpha, therefor so is the cats version for 4.2.

Approaching End Of Life:

Version: Policy: End Of Life Date Notes:
4.1 The 4.1 branch has basic support for blender 4.1, the current 4.1 dev branch may contain further fixes and updates. However this version is not the priority and won't be given any priority unto the Blender 4.2 LTS releases later this year. Please note this version may have issues as MMD tools which cats uses has not fully been updated to blender 4.1 and won't be unto the 4.2 LTS. All blender 4.1 releases will be released under version number 4.1.x.x. 16/08/2024. Blender 4.1 Cats is approaching EOL, this means after the 16/08/2024 no more updates will be provided.

Further notes about blender 4.0 and 4.1:

Blender 4.0 and 4.1 IS NOT my priority and I will not fix things for 4.0 and 4.1 as a priority this means fixes and update for 4.0 and 4.1 could take several weeks. Also I will not backport fixes or changes from 3.6 when I release an 3.6 update, most fixes/ changes will be done via a big bulk update later on for 4.0 and 4.1.

Older Versions of Blender (Do not report issues on these versions).

Version Policy
4.0 No longer supported, the last version to support this version of blender was 4.0.5.2 https://github.com/Yusarina/Cats-Blender-Plugin-Unofficial-/releases/tag/4.0.5.2
3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 No longer supported, the last version to support these versions of blender is 0.40.0 https://github.com/Yusarina/Cats-Blender-Plugin-Unofficial-/releases/tag/0.40.0
3.2 and below No longer supported, the last version to support these versions is 0.30.0 however this may have issues on 2.8, please use the official version of cats for 2.8. https://github.com/Yusarina/Cats-Blender-Plugin-Unofficial-/releases/tag/0.30.0
2.79 Even the official cats has not worked on this version of Blender properly for a long time, we do not support this version, please use an older version of the official cats for this version of blender.

What happens when a new LTS comes out?

When a new LTS comes out, we will make that LTS our main version, all older LTS's will be given a finale date of when we will support it too. For example if Blender 4.2 LTS comes out in June, we will give the 3.6 LTS about 6 month more support and updates so 3.6 would be supported unto November. Please note dates and how long we support a LTS is not finale.

What does end of Life mean?

This is the date where we stop supporting a blender version, we have to do this because it's alot of work to support all blender version due to massive API changes lately and more. Therefor when I new blender version comes out we will announce an end of life date to a previous version. This means that version of blender will not receive any new version of cats and newer version of cats will not work on that blender version.
