Increase service limits/quotas in AWS

Introduction

Your AWS account has default quotas, formerly referred to as limits, for each AWS service. Unless otherwise noted, each quota is Region-specific. You can request increases for some

Prerequisite

AWS free tier account.

Services Covered

  • Support
  • Service Quotas

Try yourself

Step 1 —

Support

  • Goto the support console.

  • On left side menu, select Your support cases.
  • Click Create case.

  • Click on Looking for service limit increases?

  • Select Limit type - basically an AWS service you want to increase the limit for (EC2 Instance).

  • Under Requests, select the Region and the Instance type (here the service selected is EC2 instance).
  • Enter the new limit of the service.
  • It is possible to add multiple requests for the same service by Adding another request.

  • Enter a Use case description for the support team to review and understand the reason for your limit increase. The more clarity there is, the smoother the process is. By default, their motive is to reduce the risk of accidentally incurring a huge amount of bill and would deny if the use case is not good enough or would increase little by little.

  • Select the contact method you prefer the support team to contact you through.

Service Quotas Another way to increase the service quota or limit is by using Service Quota console and requesting a quota increase. This is the new limit increase dashboard/service but all the services are not supported at this time.
