<h2>Google Summer of Code 2019 with SPDX</h2>
<p class="excert">
Last summer, I was selected as one of the 1000 students worldwide to work as a student developer for the 15th edition of Google Summer of Code, a global program focused on introducing students to open source software development. As a part of this program, I worked on a 3 month programming project with Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX), a part of Linux Foundation Open Compliance Program during summer break from university.
</p>
<p class="excert">
Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) is a set of standards for communicating the components, licenses and copyrights associated with software. These software are accompanied with special files that hold certain meta information: authors, copyrights, licenses, etc. At present, these files come in two major formats: Tag/Value and RDF. Parsing tools are available for these formats in multiple programming languages like Java and Python.
</p>
<p class="excert">
Currently, unlike other tools in Java and Python, the tools-golang only handles SPDX files in tag-value format. As RDF format is also officially defined by the SPDX specification, the primary objective of this project is to add support for RDF format, ensuring that tools-golang are also capable of reading and writing SPDX files in RDF format. A parser module was developed to support golang tools when handling SPDX documents in RDF format.

<h4>6th May, 2019</h4> <br>
I still remember my first day in college, that time when I literally had no idea about what I wanted to do, what I wanted to be. <br><br>
When I started learning to program, I never had the intention to make something out of it. I never thought I'd be able to achieve this someday. I just wanted to be good at what I was doing and was terrible at during my initial days.
I feel truly blessed to have people that believed in me, more than I've ever believed in myself. I am thankful to all the seniors and comrades for their continuous guidance and support. <br> <br>
So, here I am, filled with tears, as I'm writing this post. It has been an amazing journey for me. All the lectures I missed, the grades I messed up, the sleepless nights I spent working alone and the sacrifices I made, It's making sense now.
Hopefully, I managed to make you feel proud this time. :')
<br> <br>
Yours, till the end of time, <br>

During this period, I learned about the use of SPDX file format and its use to document information on more than 300 software licenses (like MIT, Apache-2.0, GPL-3.0 etc.) under which a given piece of computer software is distributed. I also developed a module written in golang to add support for parsing and writing SPDX documents in RDF format. You can learn more about my GSoC ‘19 Project <a href="https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/archive/2019/projects/5162336644497408/">here</a>.
</p>
<p class="excert">
Google Summer of Code 2019 was without a doubt, the most effective learning experience in terms of software development till date. I gained substantial knowledge and experience in open source software development and significantly enhanced my technical skills along the way.
I'm extremely thankful to my mentors at SPDX and the community for giving me this opportunity.
