Reproduction (easiest to do in Chrome):

  1. Use Gmail or Thunderbird, since only they have properly excluded replies.
  2. Send a rendered email to yourself. (Put a code block in it, to see the problem easily later.)
  3. Change the Markdown Here CSS that will affect the contents of the original email. (Pick a new syntax highlighting theme.)
  4. Start a reply to that email. Type a bit of Markdown.
  5. Render the email (the whole thing -- no selection).

Result: You'll see the new CSS change the appearance of the original (quoted) email.

This isn't a horrible bug, since it doesn't change the content of the quoted reply.

I've now seen this bug (or related?) wreck the contents of a non-syntax-highlighted code block. Upgrading the bug severity.
