I like this implementation of hd-idle, it seems to fix problems with the original version and is actively maintained. Do you have any plans to upload it to Debian as an official package? Perhaps the biggest hurdle would be the name conflict with the existing hd-idle package. Maybe rename this one to hd-idle-ng ?

AFAIK the the original hd-idle is on its way to be a regular package in Debian. This is the thread where the topic is discussed.
For most people the original implementation will be enough though.

This re-implementation wasn't mean to end up in the official Debian repos. My only intention was to make it as close as possible to the original as a learning exercise. So I never considered make it into Debian repos.
