Removing ClipSVC might cause some problems #48
Comments
Not sure about the calculator because I removed it, but I can do everything else you mentioned just fine. Are you sure this is caused by ClipSVC? |
I was getting this same issue on two setups. By removing ClipSVC and updating Microsoft Store will cause most of (if not all) apps to stop working and get into a loop trying to reinstall itself every time you try to launch a app. Restoring the service using the mentioned .reg file fixes this issue. Note: On a clean 1903 installation, you won't get this issue until you try to update Microsoft Store app after removing ClipSVC service. |
Yes, I was having all these problems, I started troubleshooting some basic apps in powershell and discovered that every one of the taskbar icons mentioned also required ClipSVC licensing because they are part of ShellExperienceHost app. Calculator is separate, but it also showed the same clipsvc error. In events viewer
In powershell

Question, not to the creator of the repository in specific since I'm aware he's not working on this anymore soon, but what should you do if the issue already happened and adding the service back in(with the OP registry) does not work? |
Apparently if you want to click on taskbar clock, open action center or switch power plan, microsoft needs to check your computer's license.
So if you remove this service ClipSVC
You won't be able to use calculator, change power plan, change airplane mode, open taskbar clock/calendar and action center.
You can add this service back by adding a registry entry.
use this
Client_License_Service.zip
or save this as .reg and run it, restart after.
