i assume you're referring to the survey of income and program participation here since the cps does this? no one would ever merge two tables from the different sipp panels, so i'm not sure what gains there would be aside from requiring one dbConnect instead of four.. is there a big processor cost to multiple connections? (..which would happen infrequently for this data) the coding disadvantage is every table needs an extra two digits to specify the panel year, the organizational disadvantage is you're lumping together tables that should never be merged :)
Ah, ok, I thought that majority of SIPP questions was overlapping, not distinct. Maybe I should use the CPS data instead - I'm mainly looking a large dataset to try out some new ideas on.
Is it possible to run all the scripts into the same database to create one table with data for all years?
