I'm the author of PyOpenCL, which you may have heard of. I'm writing to understand your reasoning for starting this project. I found some indication here, but I'm still not completely following--if this is an issue, why not delay importing PyOpenCL until it's actually used (e.g within a function)? I don't see the motivation here to start a whole new project, with an interface that seems different just to be different...
FWIW, PyOpenCL has a cffi branch that runs on PyPy and is complete enough to run kernels. I'd be delighted to work together on that.
In any case, if you'd like to launch a competing OpenCL wrapper for Python, it's clearly not my place to be telling you how to spend your time. I'm just suggesting that we might get further by working together.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Andreas
