Summary

Writing new chapter on outreach and communicating results to a wider audience as part of the London Book Dash. This will be a new chapter in the book that highlights the importance of ensuring that your research can be easily communicated more broadly.

Fixes #553

New Chapter on Outreach and Communication

List of changes proposed in this PR (pull-request)

  • Sketched out chapter outline and put chapter documents in place
  • Work on writing summary and "why" sections of the document; want a completed first draft of these by the end of today
  • Fill in short summaries of the five subsections as time allows (these will be expanded further in July when our team has a hack day to finish the chapter)
  • Put in checklist and some references for further reading if time allows

What should a reviewer concentrate their feedback on?

  • Are the outreach principles appropriate and clear?
  • Is the background research summarized sufficiently to ensure that readers get the important points without too many details?
  • Everything looks ok?

Update following London Book Dash on 28 May 2019:

We have a solid working draft on the Outreach chapter that was completed today. We have more content to add, followed by edits and some polishing, and we have another hack day planned in July to accomplish this when our colleagues from the Hartree Center that are contributing to this effort will contribute. We will keep this up as a WIP pull request until then (with some possible edits and modifications to take place sporadically until our concentrated effort in July). Hopefully we will have a document that is finished and can be merged into master at that time.

Questions can be directed to @edaub, @crangelsmith, or @OscartGiles

WOOOOOO! AMAZING TEAM! THANK YOU!

I'm not super confident that I'll have bandwidth to review before Christmas but I'll absolutely read through in the new yead, and if anyone else is swinging by and fancies leaving some comments that would be amazing!

Great work - thank you SO much!! 💖 🌺 🙏
