Looking for other examples of file overwriting #6

Knock wood, this hasn't happened to me yet, but from what I've read I always take care to watch the "NOT SAVED" label change to "SAVED" before moving to another tab. Sometimes this takes a long time (probably always less than a minute, but can feel like forever). I attribute that to server activity levels, but who knows? |

Yes, now it happened: opening a tab I got a duplicate of another tab instead of the expected content. It's taken me awhile to realize it wasn't actually two instances of the same tab, rather it was an overwritten OPML file. I opened a ticket and Dave asked what preceded this: I said basically nothing: I had restarted the entire machine for a different reason, and this was the first time I'd opened Drummer, or Safari (Mac) for that matter, since the restart. I haven't tried restoring yet from a backup because the content wasn't valuable, but I want to confirm that I can revert to having the original name displayed on the tab (or I could just edit the header, I suppose.) |

I had it happen early on when using Drummer. I had multiple outlines open, including a live one, and it seems that if I clicked quickly between outlines (and possibly editing) then one would turn into the other. As in the content of one would become the content of the other. I thought it was just a display issue but then saw it had overwritten the file. I noticed someone else in the drummer issues repo say they if they clicked away before the outline was saved then it might overwrite the file. |

Thank you both for documenting your experiences, I saw on the Change Notes blog that Dave Winer appears to be putting some effort into this issue, hopefully a solution can be found. If anyone else experiences this, please add your descriptions here. |

I've now seen it happen twice since October, always in web Drummer, not E/D. And get this -- both times it was the contents of the Scripts menu overwriting some other file. Re it having to do with switching to a different file while a write is happening, from a user point of view that makes total sense that would be a likely culprit. When I first read that theory here, before reviewing the code, I thought hmm that could be it. It wasn't something I had looked at. But when I went to look at the code, my perspective went over to the other side, and honestly I don't think it could be that, because the data for each outline is really kept separate using a JS technique called closures. But I'm still keeping that possibility open in my mind. Now even if you don't edit the Scripts menu you might have seen this if you edited the iconbar, or any of the other special outlines. They all behave the same way re the tabs. This is something I'm going to look into over the holidays. And yes of course I am going to be interested in this until it stops happening!! This sucks. I can't abide this as The Dude might have said. |

I have had this problem occur for me several times. I know multiple issues have been created on the support repo (issue 119, 82, 127), but it seems no resolution has been found. If this has been happening for other Drummer users, please post some information to this discussion. I am planning to look into this problem this week.
