I really like the hexagonal infill pattern for many reasons and just saw a neat feature that is implemented in the KISSlicer:
Rounding the Hexagonal Infill. This is generating huge gcode files of course and slows down slicing a bit i think, but especially for printing a larger number of parts from the same gcode (e.g. small batch series) this is worth the time - i was impressed to see the infill-speed boost compared to standard angled hexagonal infill with otherwise identical settings.
maybe this could be just implemented as another infill pattern ("hexagonal rounded")

the pattern itself is a little different from Slic3r 's honeycomb - but i think it should still be comparable enough.
All angled are simply subdivided into a small arc of about 2-3 lines.
