Model outputs for diverse probing questions

We show the output for different sizes of Macaw (for the Q->A angle) on the 300 questions in the Challenge300 probe dataset. For comparison, we also include output for the models developed by Roberts et al, based on T5 with salient span masking and trained on NaturalQuestions, available in the Hugging Face model repository. We also include the output from the largest GPT3 model (Davinci with 175 billion parameters), and Jurassic-1 (Jumbo model with 178 billion parameters), both evaluated zero-shot with a simple prompt "Q: <question text>\nA:" and zero temperature.

For the largest models we include scores given by a human evaluator, the overall scores are:

  • Macaw-11B: 74.7%
  • Macaw-answer-11B: 76.0%
  • GPT3-davinci: 65.6%
  • Jurassic-1-jumbo: 64.8%
  • T5-XXL-SSM-NQ: 57.5%
