Scala 2.12.8 and almond 0.9.1 doesn't work (at least on macOS Catalina) #568

I originally tried to install almond locally with Scala 2.12.8 and almond 0.9.1 on macOS Catalina (i.e. SCALA_VERSION=2.12.8 ALMOND_VERSION=0.9.1). This is the combination that is suggested in the quick start guide.

This didn't work; the kernel installed and was added to Jupyter, but when I tried to start the kernel it died immediately (before I even tried to run any notebook cells). I had to switch to SCALA_VERSION=2.12.10 ALMOND_VERSION=0.9.1 to make things work properly, so unless this is changed I'd suggest that the website's installation guide list this combination instead.

I had the same problem (OS: Mac OSX Catalina 10.15.4). Switching to SCALA_VERSION=2.12.10 and ALMOND_VERSION=0.9.1 as suggested by @c123w also works in my case.
