In onCreate() method below RecyclerView code block, when getting a ViewModel from ViewModelProviders, the code should be
mWordViewModel = ViewModelProviders.of(this).get(WordViewModel.class);
according to https://developer.android.com/topic/libraries/architecture/viewmodel.html

Use ViewModelProvider
