Currently, G2 brushes "snap" to data. This causes issues for column charts. Ideally, a user should be able to change the scale independent of data contained inside the scale change. I've included an example from plotly.js that demonstrates how the interaction should occur.
Related may be that brush-y doesn't seem to work on Firefox.

Here is how it works on firefox using brush-x. I would like to only move x-axis scale, not snap to data. Additionally, no box is drawn when holding down mouse to select range.
Also you will see a line appear in the gif. This is an annotation outside the selected x region and shouldn't be pushed into view in any case. Just reproduced in Chrome as well.
G2 Version:
v4.0.7
Platform:
MacOS, Firefox 76.0
