A few reasons: exposing gstreamer-java into a Maven repo allows it to be used
seamlessly by Maven shops, Ant Ivy shops and Groovy Grape code as well.

In short, it allows the library to be easily integrated into other apps and 
gives it
some much needed exposure.

I have started working on this issue by creating an account on sonatype.com - 
one of
the public repository servers accepted by maven central for version 
submissions. The
end result will be a mechanism for deploying new gstreamer-java releases from a
developer's workspace using the maven tool itself. Putting public maven 
repository
distribution aside - a pom.xml file can be written regardless, to enable 
building of
gstreamer-java using maven

maven POM is now in SVN HEAD. deployment to maven central will be performed 
after
release 1.4

gstreamer-java now deployed on maven central. The version number in 
trunk/gstreamer-java/pom.xml should be updated before making new releases
