Would it be possible to publish the releases on pypi not only as a wheel but also as a source distribution?

Thanks

There's some development work needed to make the source distributions viable, since the build system depends on some files in the C++ project. I created https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ARROW-1535. Can you close this issue and we can discuss further there?

As a further note to make pip install pyarrow work with no other libraries installed on your system is a pretty big project, and is probably not worth the effort. Projects like TensorFlow don't bother with source distributions for identical reasons.
