I have my own build board without the possibility to use USB for uploading. But the rest of the hardware is uno comptible. I use a USBasp programmer and there is no other COM port in my system.
If i now select Arduino UNO as board, USBAsp as programmer and select "upload with programmer" (in german it's called "Hochladen mit Programmer") the IDE tries to find the UNO on a COM Port, before the programmer is used. Certainly this check fails, because there is no COM Port.
Workaround, i have to connect another UNO.
