This is more of a question, regarding design choices were made during Vanity development.
I want to perform processing on formatted text from papers, and found that Vanity does fine work on converting to html. It's not perfect though (#487), and my humble research into Latex tooling indicates that tex4ht may perform better since it is native Latex package.
