AST Builders should live in ast package and provide a way of creating AST objects independent of JRuby

Can you provide a bit more context for your issue?
I don't see right now how creating AST objects has a visible dependency on JRuby.

If you mean that it is not possible right now to create an AST outside of a Processor, then yes, this is right.
But to my knowledge Asciidoctor core also does not provide this yet.
So I guess it would be better to open this ticket there first.
