What's the timeline for dropping support for python 2? Python 2 formally dies in 2020 and Astropy dropped it long ago. Removing the six and __future__ code will make things a lot cleaner.

Should we issue a v1.0 on PyPI and drop python 2 after that?

Given that many projects still rely on 2, and that a release because of recent fixes is necessary, i agree.

The plan we agreed to last week was to release the last 0.3.x nowish, and them move on to 1.0 with the new features and removed python2 support.
