Need spinner for long delayed actions

Today I did a regex find and replace on a 600 line document in which there were 600 matches. The action took approximately 8-10 seconds at which time Atom was completely locked up. While I'm a patient person, I did have a moment of "is it taking a while or has it crashed?". I'm not sure if it's possible but could we show a spinner for long actions like that?

Since the entire UI locked up, I'm guessing that we can't do it but I figured I'd mention it here.
