I was able to force quit the app and when I restarted it updated correctly. Still, it's an issue that the Restart and Install option doesn't work properly atm.

v0.95.0 should fix this problem. Luckily there is a work around discussed in this Topic on http://discuss.atom.io.

1.) Close Atom
2.) Reopen Atom and wait until the v0.95.0 download is finished.
3.) Wait a 2-3 minutes to make sure everything is settled.
4.) Close Atom completely with cmd-q.
5.) Wait a minute.
6.) Open Atom again and verify it is on 0.95.0

Sorry about this, but once you are on 0.95.0 you should never see it again!

@probablycorey Thanks for the workaround!

In my case cmd-q didn't work.. I tried using the "Quit" in the menu bar, fired back atom and viola 0.95.0 !

I've been having this issue for months now - not a single version has auto-updated ( currently on 0.129 ). Could it be Yosemite? GitHub for mac also fails to auto-update.

@cvburgess Could you open a new issue for this? This issue was about a very specific update exception
