  2. Go to a water source

Does Minecraft + Iris & Sodium produce the same issue?
There are many rendering-related mods involved here, and it wouldn't surprise me if one of them is the root of the problem.

Optifine and Iris have the same issue.

it works with the "Normal" setting disabled
