AutoKey is always enabled on start even if disabled before exiting. #889
Comments
I really think this is a feature, not a bug. What's the point of starting AutoKey if you don't want it active - at least initially? If you happen to have AutoKey disabled and your system locks up and you have to log out or reboot, then ,some time later, when you get it going again, Autokey would still be disabled. This might be confusing because AutoKey probably wasn't what you were thinking about when you were regaining control of your system or you shutdown for the night and came back much later expecting AutoKey to be enabled. |
I suppose that the point of starting it if you don't want it active would be to have it ready and waiting in the tray. As for it being confusing, the same could be said for if you disable AutoKey and your system locks up and you have to log out or reboot and AutoKey is then enabled, which is what's currently happening. Also, autokey-qt provides the same toggle in the form of a checkbox inside of the Settings menu in the main AutoKey interface and if you uncheck that box, it will be checked the next time you load AutoKey. I don't know about you, but I've neither seen nor heard of any program ever in the history of computing intentionally undoing a change you made in its Settings menu, yet AutoKey is doing exactly that when it rechecks that box. If you feel that all of that is good behavior, go ahead and close the bug as invalid. I never disable AutoKey, so I don't have a personal stake in it. I just saw it as inconsistent behavior that should be fixed, so I noted it here. |
So far we have one vote each way. Might as well leave it open and see if anyone else cares about it one way or the other. It's not something I feel strongly about. |
AutoKey is a Xorg application and will not function in a Wayland session. Do you use Xorg (X11) or Wayland?
Xorg
