Will Imagine be getting the ability to save jpg files as progressive?

+1 would be fine
but i guess it relies on sub libs (Imagick,etc.)

Looks like it's possible with Imagick: http://php.net/manual/en/imagick.setinterlacescheme.php

Does the ImageInterface::interlace method, and associated interlace schemes, not cover you here?

You can call the interlace method on the image object to set it.
