As a relative newcomer to maintaining projects, I would love for some way to contact people using a module I am maintaining. I would love to ask for feedback announce an update or ask for people to test a new feature.
GOAL:
Provide a better way for project maintainers to communicate with the users of their project.
RATIONAL:
For some projects, this might help build a small community around a specific module or theme. It is also another entry point into the larger community AND a way for folks interested in the development of a specific module to sign up for updates (without having to follow the issue queue for that project).
This could be a way to both support contributors and make their job easier, while building the over all community by adding additional doors to get in.
OPTION:
My suggestion - and this might be too ambitious, but I'll throw it out for thought and discussion.
What if every project on BackdropCMS.org had a sign-up for updates. This would be a way to sign up to get project (module/theme/layout) specific updates from the project maintainer on an opt-in basis.
Signing up for updates on a specific project could come with some caveats such as the following:
Use of the list would be optional for project maintainers and many projects are unlikely to ever use the list.
For those projects that do use the list, they would be limited to month/y or even quarterly communications (except in emergency - security related situations).
