Rust requires str to contain valid UTF-8 data, which compressed data is generally not. So your code is violating Rust safety requirements.

Unfortunately ruru's API appears to be so broken that you can't fix this issue by yourself. I already created an issue on their tracker, asking for a [u8] based API.
