Evaluate the design potential of the open source PenPot compared to paid Figma application to assess whether the former is a viable replacement, switching to this and reducing costs for NRIDS.

Goals

  • Complete 10 hours of introductory and intermediate level tutorials available at https://penpot.app/libraries-templates
  • Discover what coding capabilities PP has for Devs to potentially use.
  • Determine if PP can create a useable BC Gov Design System library of reusable components.

Findings: PenPot is viable but still not as mature as Figma. Code provisions are still rudimentary and components are not as easy to work with as Figma. I'll aim to do Sprint 101 with PenPot and will decide what to continue with (Figma, or PP) at the end of that sprint.
