Today custom overlays (internally called plugins) are not sandboxed nor is there an permission model whatsoever to prevent loading malicious plugins. This is not ideal.

for now, this isn't something to worry about 😸

down the road we'll potentially write or run a static analysis tool that describes what plugins are doing when they are installed. However, for now it's totally up to the user to decide to trust or not trust an overlay/plugin

this decision is based on what vscode does
