Hi,

How are you?

I have for you two versions of the header. Please let me know which one is better and I'll continue with that direction. Please take a note that header should fit the height of every screen in that way that orange bottom bar would be visible.

Version 1
Version 2

@wbnns I have also a question. I got one comment on Invision regard the section with 3 icons ( Fast p2p transactions, worldwide payment, and low fees processing).

There was discussion on this on GitHub: #2010

It's likely that at present moment it makes sense to emphasize other things, such as decentralization. At current levels of 400 satoshi/byte it's probably not fair to advertise "low processing fees".

Could you tell me more about the final decision? Should I present something different there?

All the best,
Natalie

@natiwa Don't worry about the text/icons, it doesn't really matter yet, and it's easy to change later on anyway. The homepage hasn't changed yet anyway.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but there's something that feels a bit "wrong" with this latest version. I'll try to summarize my thoughts as best as I can:

  • The illustrations take up way too much space, and it's unclear how they relate to Bitcoin. One looks like a circuit board, and the other looks like it doesn't really belong there, and it hints of being a video, even though the video we do have doesn't look like that.
  • I like going for more colourful look, but the orange gradient doesn't match the orange used in the Bitcoin logo, and the colours look like they belong on a site for Breadwallet or something. I'm OK with more colour and orange look, but only if it looks consistent with the existing Bitcoin orange.
  • Gradient on the buttons looks weird, I prefer flat buttons/design with no rounded corners, looks a lot simpler. The black on white on the 'Get started with Bitcoin' button looks out of place too.
  • The two buttons should be near the top of the screen so it's more likely they'll be clicked on, and bounce rate will be low. Too much space is taken up by the illustration and huge text that the buttons are pushed too far down.

Perhaps we can take the existing embed of the video on the site (https://i.imgur.com/eDwlJYf.png), and put it on the left, and on restructure the design so the text and buttons are on the right side. And we can go for a more flat (but still orange) design scheme? To me this version just feels like it's for another project, and not for Bitcoin.

@wbnns Curious what your thoughts are too?

@natiwa

Thanks for putting these comps together. Yeah, don't worry about the text for now.

I just went through and left comments on both versions. I agree with all of what @Cobra-Bitcoin already mentioned:

  • The illustrations are cool, but not sure how they tie-in to Bitcoin.
  • Too much space is being taken up by the graphics (that is valuable real estate to connect visitors with content)
  • Some of the orange doesn't match the palette of orange in the Bitcoin icon
  • This color scheme seems to resemble Breadwallet a bit too closely

Also:

  • The typeface for the large black font doesn't seem to be supplementary to the typeface of the orange text below it (or the typeface of font in the navigation bar)
  • The "What is Bitcoin?" video is a bit dated, and we have a lot of great content on the site, I like the direction we've been going of having a smaller link directing people to the video, rather than a big "Play" button.

I agree w/ @Cobra-Bitcoin that this version feels a bit more like a different project, rather than Bitcoin. Don't worry though, you are doing an awesome job on all of these different versions! It's great explore the spectrum of what might be possible to see what might work best so we hit the mark. 👍

Looking forward to connecting and discussing everything in our progress meeting later today.

@natiwa

Thanks a bunch - looks good. I like it a lot better than the first two iterations we reviewed yesterday. As discussed in today's progress meeting, let's go ahead and proceed with responsive versions (for handhelds and tablets, like we have with the other designs). Once done, we'll prepare a community vote to settle on the most well-received design, and then press forward extending it across the site's subpages, starting with the most popular ones. I'll start working on an outline for that.

Looks great, thanks. I'll compile the various comps so we can proceed with the community vote.

Looks really nice. Maybe we can make a post on the blog with all the details about the different versions and how to vote? Then we just share that post everywhere. I think http://www.strawpoll.me/ makes the most sense to use for polling, unless anyone else knows of a better alternative?
