Help error says multibit error another program changed wallet #186
Comments
If you restart MultiBit that error should go away. |
I've restarted it several time and I get the same error. |
That error is when the size and modification date on the wallet files changes unexpectedly. Try closing all your wallets using File | Close Wallet and opening a single wallet. Also when you say you imported a bitcoin what did you do exactly ? There is only the option to import a private key -is that what you did ? |
Well I sent it from the place I bought it to the receiving string of numbers and it said the bit coin transaction was complete and i could see it was done. But it was in the walled that stopped updating so it would not let me do anything with it. |
let me rephrase this--I bought the bit coin and got the address and it imported just fine where under transaction it said complete after waiting a while. But then I could not send it anywhere or anything because all of the fields were grayed out. So in theory there is a bitcoin sitting somewhere in my computer but do I need to get it out of that wallet which seems damaged? |
Nothing is working I have attached the log files I could find I am really frustrated after losing money the first time I used this. 01:08:51.326 [main] INFO o.m.ApplicationDataDirectoryLocator - Application data directory.1 = 'C:\Users\J\AppData\Roaming\MultiBit' 08:26:00.532 [main] INFO o.m.ApplicationDataDirectoryLocator - Application data directory.1 = 'C:\Users\J\AppData\Roaming\MultiBit' |

Hi peaser0712, There are some odd errors in those logs (for instance not being able to save a wallet which is very unusual). I think the best bet is to extract your private keys and import them into a blockchain.info wallet. Your private keys are stored in the following places:
I would backup all of these files now before proceeding any further. There is a section in the help on exporting private keys - for your usage you want to export them unencrypted so that you can open the file and copy the private key. In blockchain.info there is a section 'Import/Export' and then an option 'Import Private Key'. If you cannot get your private keys out of multibit then consider zipping them up and mailing them to me at support at multibit dot org. Normally you do not want anyone else to see your private keys (as they can spend your bitcoin) but I'd be happy to look at your wallets/ private key exports / backups if necessary. |
I have written a help item on how to move a MultiBit wallet into blockchain.info that you might find useful: |
Read it last night looks very slick. We should revisit the others and give them the same treatment. Good work! Sent from my iPad On 4 Jul 2013, at 20:29, Jim Burton notifications@github.com wrote:

So should I just write this off as bad luck? On Fri, Jul 5, 2013 at 1:49 AM, Gary Rowe notifications@github.com wrote:

Did you have a look through that post from yesterday I made about where your private keys are stored ? |
peaser0712 posted in #195 that he had his bitcoin back so closing |
