Describe the bug
Reported in #215 #134 #117 #110 #87 #44 #27

Sometimes when a new device is added or removed (like a Bluetooth device connecting to Mac) causes eqMac to fail to start the audio pipeline or crash all together. Mostly noticeable when switching on/off a Bluetooth headset or rebooting your Mac and having eqMac launch on startup.

A lot depends on how Apple is handling device logic, which differs from and to macOS version. But eqMac should find the best possible work around.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Turn on an already synced Bluetooth device while eqMac is running
  2. Sometimes - no audio

Expected behaviour
eqMac should handle device changes

Setup information:

  • Audio transmission interface: more often with wireless devices
  • macOS Version: So far noticeable in all macOS version

Screenshots or Console.app logs
Console log to be added soon...

Unfixable for me, just one day started crashing every time I opened the UI. Can't do anything to fix, can not open the UI. The eq still works, but I cant change it at all. Please fix soon, this is really really annoying.

Device: Macbook Pro 2019 16" Intel i9
Version: EqMac v1.4.6, Driver v2.0.5, UI: v3.2.4 (Remote)
MacOS: 10.15.3 (macOS Catalina)
Description: I have my headphones connected via my Dell U3219Q, then via USB C to my MacBook. Every time I pull out the USB C cord from my MacBook or plug it in, eqmac GUI hangs and I have to force kill it and restart it. Even switching the output on the monitor causes this, as the laptop loses the connection to the headphones.

Version: App: v1.4.6, Driver: v2.0.5, UI: v3.2.4 (Remote)
MacOS: 12.2.1 on both computers
Description: I'm getting the pinwheel of death requiring a Force Quiet via Activity Monitor for multiple reasons. If I change output device (BT headphones, wired monitors), after waking computer from sleep, and sometimes out of nowhere when i just try to click on the icon to change the setting. This started about 2 weeks ago and previously had very few issues. Now it's 10-20X a day. Reinstalling doesn't fix it.

Device: 2015 Macbook pro
MacOS: 12.2.1
Version: App: v1.4.6, Driver: v2.0.5, UI: v3.2.4 (Remote)
Description: Macbook is attached to a KVM switch but overall issue is the same as others; when audio control is switched from Macbook to another audio device the app goes unresponsive and produces the pinwheel, has to be manually killed via Activity Monitor. Also occurs when mac wakes from sleep or power nap

(Edit) Also just noticed I can't manually change audio source via Control Center while eqMac is enabled. If I switch the app to disabled then the audio source changes and is ok when app is re-enabled.

It seems to be an Intel-based problem, hm?

Today is June 10, I see this issue is "closed", I have the latest beta v1.4.6, and this is not fixed. How could I help track the problem down? Maybe pasting here some of the console crash reports? I understand they are automatically send; are they not?

Also happening here. Emac 1.4.6, MacOS 13.0 Beta (22A5286j) but the problem was already there with my public release MacOS 12 Monterey on a 2020f MacBook Air M1, exactly the same. Eqmac ALWAYS freezes when starting up and freezes when switching devices with bluetooth.

Probably it never get fixed? ...

@ecterrab

It is a pity because it is good software and design. I stopped using it. It crashes 10 out of 10 times when plugging and unplugging eg. AirPods or things like that. The problem s easy to reproduce. And I hear no response to so many comments about the same.

The issue seems solved to me!... Is it the case for other people too?
