There are multi-year old issues which prevent basic actions (ex: Importing the library).

Is @bitly still supporting this or has it been abandoned?

+1, it would be good to know if this is still supported, if it is not put something in the README at the very least.

If it is can we please merge fixes and make a release.

This repo seems abandoned by its original creator.
I have cloned it and merged in at least some pull requests here: https://github.com/jimmy927/bitly-api-python

At the writing point in time i got it working.
