Steps To Reproduce

This is a continuation of #6917 .

On our systems it can be reliably reproduced every single time.

Windows 11 23H2 and ANY browser.

Please do not reply with the "fixes" previously supplied by Bitwarden in issue # 6917. We have tried each one ad nauseum. They do not work.

Also please do not advise to open support cases. We've done that ad nauseum with Bitwarden support unable to do anything more than supply the "fixes" previously supplied by Bitwarden in issue # 6917.

I think at this point that Bitwarden needs to make a public statement about the Desktop app and the browser extension integration because this issue, and other similar issues, are happening to thousands of Bitwarden users. For those of us who paid for the software, we paid for something that we cannot use because Bitwarden cannot fix it or it is not making a fix a top priority. And Bitwarden will not issue a refund.

Expected Result

The Desktop app and browser integration should work, and work flawlessly.

Actual Result

"Browser integation is not ativated in the deskotp app"

This has been reported literally hundreds of times going back years.

Hi there,

By any chance is your company using the MS store app version of Bitwarden's desktop app (which does not support biometrics)?

If you are, please try with the side-loaded Windows desktop app, available at bitwarden.com/download, that should work fine.

If not, please write us back using our “Contact support” form located on our Help Center, as I suspect this could be a permissions issue that requires some troubleshooting.

Thanks!

No. We are not using the Microsoft Store version. We had been using the version downloaded from Bitwarden's website for a few years. The problem is that every so often, biometrics integration spontaneously breaks without any user or sysadmin changes being done. This began about 18 months ago and has persisted since then. For one build it get fixed, when the next build is released it is broken again. I have reported it here numerous times but nobody at Bitwarden prioritizes it for debugging and a fix.

Given that there have been hundreds of people starting in 2020 who have reported this issue, Bitwarden can easily assume that this issue is happening to thousands of users - the vast majority which have no inclination to report it.

If not, please write us back using our “Contact support” form located on our Help Center, as I suspect this could be a permissions issue that requires some troubleshooting.

I guess you did not bother to fully read what I wrote. I stated "Please do not direct us to contact Bitwarden support" because we have done that many times and they are incapable of solving the issue.

The problem is not one of permissions. In our environment we are not running anything complicated or hardening systems in ways that break stuff. Besides, as has been reported many times, this reported problem happens even on clean-installed 100% default Windows 11.

So it looks like reporting this any further is an exercise in futility - Bitwarden is not going to devote the resources to it to figure out why it keeps happening for thousands of its users and fix it.

Same here. We tried everything. Uninstalling, reinstalling, cleaning up the userprofile, installing again, enabling browser integration before installing the browser plugin, no change. It stopped working. We're using Microsoft Edge and the official (not MS Store) installer on Windows 11.
