Steps To Reproduce

Hi,
On my MacBook, I've enabled 'Ask for Touch ID on app start' in the Bitwarden settings.
To try to address the issue described below, I've removed and re-installed Bitwarden, which did not make any difference.

Expected Result

I'm expecting that the MacOS Touch ID pop-up only appears automatically when I start the Bitwarden app, as the name of the setting clearly describes.

Actual Result

The Touch ID pop-up appears incorrectly:

  1. When the Vault timeout is reached, I've set this to 5 minutes
  2. When 'Lock all vaults' is used.

I agree this could use clarification. I think the setting should either be renamed (to something like 'Ask for Touch ID to unlock vault'), or the functionality should be modified so that the Touch ID pop up only occurs on startup.

I would only use the option if it triggers the Touch ID pop-up when the app is started.
When locking the vault, in my view it doesn't make sense for the Touch ID pop-up to appear.

Hello there,

This is expected behaviour for this setting. I agree that it might sound confusing so I will suggest changing the name of it to our team. Biometric Unlock can only be used to unlock a vault in locked state. Therefore if Touch ID is enabled, and your vault is locked, Touch ID will be offered every time.

Thanks for explaining!
To me however the intended functionality doesn't make sense. Who would want to lock and immediately want to unlock the vault again. Or who sets a vault lock timeout and wants to unlock immediately when the lock timeout is reached?

Was this a registered feature request that users voted on?
Who wants this setting 'Ask for Touch ID to unlock vault' to work in the way you describe, I'm really wondering?

I would expect it should be technically possible to only trigger the Touch ID pop-up when the app is starting and not every time the vault locks for some reason. If it is not possible, I suggest the feature can be completely removed. I doubt if anyone will activate the feature after renaming it to: 'Ask for Touch ID on vault lock'

Many users use this to quickly unlock their vault when returning to their PC. For example they might have timeout set to 8H and the next day, when they start working, they are only prompted for touch ID.
