I have the image layer, it shows the image perfectly in the Tiled Editor, however when i export to any kind of file, the image layer information is not included in the exported file.

I am using daily build dated 2012.12.17 under Win7 , installed from following link
http://files.mapeditor.org/daily/tiled-2012-12-17-win32-setup.exe

That's true, when this feature was added only the TMX reader/writer was adapted. The other formats still need to be updated.
