I fired up your go-dev env and the below is how it comes out;

That's hideous!!!!! did you try ,bp or ,bz ?

It looks like it is fighting with your terminals default color scheme?

What OS are you running this on?

,bp changes the color to

I'm currently running on my Mac using iTerm2 but I've also seen this same behavior on using Putty on Windows connecting to a Ubuntu server

What is the issue with the question marks?

You need a nerd tree font with powerline - https://github.com/blacktop/go-dev/blob/master/NOTES.md#fonts

If you installed solarized dark to iterm2 I bet the other theme would look better.
