Describe the problem you are having

I'm using windows 11 with wsl2 (Ubuntu-22.04)
graphics card is Intel Iris(R) Xe Graphics.
Therefor the d3d12 driver:

Therefor the d3d12 driver

That's not correct, most likely should be iHD driver

In any case, just to be clear, running in windows is not officially supported

the error message is a little bit different in vainfo

Looks like it's finding the hardware but it isn't compatible. Might be the way it's passed into wsl2, not familiar with what that looks like

I did the following ffmpeg command directly in wsl\ubuntu:

ffmpeg -hwaccel vaapi -hwaccel_device /dev/dri/renderD128 -hwaccel_output_format vaapi -i qt1.mkv -c:v h264_vaapi -b:v 2M -maxrate 2M output.mp4

It works fine and transcoded a VP9 (within mkv) to a h.264 output.
How can I use these parameters in frigate/ffmpeg?

same CPU, same config, and same error.

If run ‘vainfo --display drm" directly under WLS2, no error; if run ’docker exec --it (frigate-container) vainfo --display drm‘, the same error.

It seems the vGPU is not passed into Frigate docker correctly.

Meanwhile I have spent hours and hours to solve the problem, but I can't. I did the same like you within docker bash: error.
Within wsl2/ubuntu I can use the GPU, see it definitely in Intel Arc Control

Decode an input and discard the output (this can be used as a crude benchmark of the decoder):
ffmpeg -hwaccel vaapi -hwaccel_device /dev/dri/card0 -hwaccel_output_format vaapi -i qt1.mkv -f null –
GPU in use: video length is 4:50, 46MB | decode is 25s | ARC Control Center: speed 12x, 359fps

Decode an input and discard the output (this can be used as a crude benchmark of the decoder):
ffmpeg -i qt1.mkv -f null –
CPU in use: video length is 4:50, 46MB | decode is 15s | ARC Control Center: speed 20x, 594fps

That means, CPU is much faster than GPU.
That's why I won't pursue the use of the GPU any further.

It's not completely about GPU/CPU which is quicker, sometimes it's about releasing CPU to do other things...
