bug in average speed detection

There's some issue where, if you dive right in typing fast, the average speed shows way higher than it should be.

I get around it by just deliberately typing the first few keys slowly.

I think I could solve this by having it ignore the first few keystrokes, because something about the first few delta times throws it off. I imaging this is a common rookie statistical error based on the way the average is calculated.
