Related to #7232 and #6151.

Guess we can rely on hostname being pure ascii, right?

But how about user and group names (for now, but also for past borg1 archives)?

  • pure ascii? (guess ideally/usually yes, but we can not rely on it)
  • pure unicode without surrogate-escape?
  • unicode with surrogate-escapes to represent arbitrary bytestrings?

Guess I'll play safe and just process them as if they could contain surrogate-escapes.
