Hello,

It's posible to support XLS format (read and write)?

This format is widely used by companies due to internal policies.

Thanks,
Best regards.

Even though XLS is still used by a lot of companies, it is a really old format! I believe the oldest Office version supporting XLSX format is Office 2000 on Windows XP. Microsoft stopped supporting both of them a while ago.

Supporting a new format is a lot of effort, in terms of both implementation and maintenance. And since XLS is a proprietary, old and dying format, I don't think it is worth being added to Spout.

If you do need to support XLS files, you can try other libraries or feel free to fork this project :)

So Spout's XLS reader is really an XLSX reader? XLS bad, XLSX good? (I use OpenOffice, which reads anything from anywhere, so I'm really asking.)

The main difference between XLS and XLSX is that XLS files use a proprietary binary format whereas, XLSX use a newer file format known as Open XML.

What would you even call the class that would be a real XLS reader? =)

Oh crap it actually is called XLSX in Spout, not XLS. Ignore me. I'm stupid.
