Per #1 and other improvements over the years, I'd like to update the guidance and metadata published in PyPI.

With https://github.com/brandon-rhodes/backports/releases/tag/v1.1, I cut a new release and used pyproject-build -s to build it and twine check dist/* to check it and twine upload dist/* to upload it. I then went to PyPI and deleted the .tar.gz artifact so this project continues not to have any artifacts to download.

I'd have liked to simply update the metadata but for pypi/warehouse#2170.
