I was looking for a way to sign up for the newsletter on codeforsanfrancisco.org website and I could not find one.

You can sign up for newsletters by selecting "sign up for newsletter" either during check-in or in your account profile. There's some additional work that needs to be done to surface that more, but it's currently there and usable.
