I understand the request but I don't fully understand the use case:

if you want to download a .pkg to an external USB media, you can actually use your computer (Windows, macOS, Linux) and download the file directly to USB.
You would even get better download speeds, compared to your PS3.

could you explain your use-case? e.g. why won't you use a desktop application to download a file and save it to USB?

I to would love this feature as I don't have any room left on internal drive and keep a USB HDD connected for the bulk of my games in ISO or folder format in NTFS

For the record, NTFS is not currently supported by PKGi.

btw, if you don't have space on your HDD, you wouldn't be able to install the .pkg you download. (just keep it for backup purposes)

The usecase is when people are simply "stranded" with their PS3 or want to send it to a offline friend and solely have the console, or disk space constraints, etc

Additional note: without adding specific support for NTFS or exFAT, any .pkg over 4Gb can't be saved to an external USB drive (fat32).

My current situation looks like this:

  • I have no more space on my internal HDD
  • I have an unused WD MyPassport Ultra 1TB external HDD
  • I tried formatting it to NTFS but mmCM refuses to read it.
Being able to use PKGi with an external drive would be lovely! :)
