Link to the existing BP Codex page.

https://codex.buddypress.org/translations/

What needs to be done?

A good part of it can be recycled to inform people wishing to contribute to BP translation.

But we probably need to remove the "Custom" part:

  • as to my knowledge, since WP 4.6 it's no more possible to use a custom language file. I'll check it again.
  • it's probably something we'd need to put into the developer handbook

Handbook to migrate the page in

buddypress/docs/user

Tasks to accomplish

  • This task has been added to the "Todo" panel of the Documentation project.
  • The corresponding line of the data/README.md Pages list has been marked as "Migrate issue/task created".
  • A PR has been submitted to the BuddyPress GH repository, it has been linked to this issue/task & the task was moved to the "In progress" panel of the Documentation project.
  • The PR has been converted to a SVN patch and committed to the BuddyPress SVN repository & the task was moved to the "Done" panel of the Documentation project.

This other page of the Codex is very similar:

After thinking a bit more about it, this section of the contributor's handbook is informing about all translation contributors need to know.

So let's see if we can still use what's explains the tutorial about using custom language files to eventually move this content to the users handbook.
