Hello

This is not working right ?
I'm trying to work WITHOUT using the auto microtone bend option

Hallo Jean !
[...]
I put the picture to show that the auto microtone bend option is off and I'm trying to use the pitch wheel to detune the channels instead.

OM# doesn't shift MIDI note channels automatically like OpenMusic.
What's in the "auto microtone" that would make you prefer the pitchwheel box ?

oh I see...
Well the auto microtone introduces a bend on note release that is really annoying.
It has been like this in OM too, so I avoid it in class too and all my students are like me now :)

I think I'd rather think about how to fix that... Maybe with another preference for a permanent bend (never released except when the option is turned off).

That would be nice indeed !

Context: I've spent a lot of time either fixing or explaining users how this pitchwheel box is to be set and used in order to correctly play channel-shifted OM objects, that I ended up being convinced this is not a really well designed/user-friendly procedure :) OM# is to me an opportunity to rethink this kind of thing and try to make it better...

Update / OM# 1.3:

The "Score preferences" now propose 4 microtonal pitch-bend options:

  • off
  • auto (the one you know)
  • permanent (as suggested above)
  • no-bend: just shifts the note channel but lets you deal with pitch bend (= the "classic" OM strategy)

I hope it works better for everyone now :)
