interventions

We want to make interventions on live audio and video streams sent from Glass. Here is an overview of the system we have in mind.

The core idea is that the intervention is a conversation between the wearer and the artists. The interventions respond to the sound and images captured by the Glass wearer.

There are five moving parts:

  1. Capture video with Glass
  2. share video and audio
  3. An animator paints on a sheet of glass placed in front of the live video, a sound artist shapes the audio feed
  4. The animation (and sound) is captured in real time then
  5. shared with the glass wearer (and the world)

Here's a sketch of how the parts go together:

setup

Ideally this would be done in real time and the animation shared with the wearer. We have imagined another scenario where the artists send images on a regular basis or by using a button.

other scenarios

The CalArts group generated several variations on this system. Here are a few:

  1. The artist also uses glass to record the intervention
  2. The intervention is mixed with the Glass-wearer's video feed to a greater or lesser degree (this is another point of intervention)
  3. The animator sends still frames rather than a video feed
  4. A writer sends text messages to the Glass wearer

This system lends itself to a more general collaboration between Glass and artists. We would like to invite others to participate in the intervention.

We are concerned about the feasibility of this project and may need help with implementation. Could someone at Google give us some hints about the parts we will need and where to start?
