@WhitleyMcCall - would you mind describing that case you mentioned on the call today here in addition to putting it in the DropBox Paper doc? 😄

The concern mentioned in the call was regarding source drug codes for appendicitis that are an exact match to the input string, technically meet the phenotype criteria, but are not clinically appropriate. For example, the phenotype criteria for appendicitis includes drugs that are in the antibiotic inclusion list and are systemic. Source code NDC_00006097160: Ampicillin 250 MG Oral Capsule is an exact match for "ampicillin." It is one of the listed antibiotics and it is systemic. However, oral antibiotics are not clinically appropriate for the initial treatment of appendicitis and should not be included.

I have updated the DropBox paper 😄

Phenotype: Appendicitis
Input String: “ampicillin”
Source Code: NDC_00006097160: Ampicillin 250 MG Oral Capsule

    - This would be an exact match because ampicillin 250 mg oral capsule is an exact match for “ampicillin”
    - Ampicillin 250 mg oral capsule also meets the phenotype criteria, which is that the antibiotic drug strings must be systemic antibiotics
    - However, an oral antibiotic would not be clinically appropriate in this case. Instead, the clinically appropriate route would be intravenous.

Conclusion: “Exactly Matches Definition String + NOT Clinically Relevant”
